Pre-Prom Assembly

As prom season approaches, we want to keep our strong tradition of celebration and safety here at AHS.  We have thoroughly reviewed and updated our procedures to ensure that this high school rite of passage is enjoyed by all and remembered as a joyous time.  We are grateful to our dedicated staff and students who organize prom each year. We are also thankful for Anita Brockette, former AHS teacher, who will share her heartfelt message with our students as a reminder of how precious life is and the importance of making smart choices, especially during prom season.  All juniors and seniors will attend a 30-minute pre-prom assembly on Thursday, April 20, 2017.  We are looking forward to making this year’s prom a night to remember and cherish for our AHS family.

In addition, on April 20 Officer Andy Muncy and our School Resource Officers with the Albemarle County Police Department are going to be handing out adhesive cell phone wallets to the students as they exit the parking lot with the saying “Phone Down Saves Lives” as a reminder to not text and drive.  It will hopefully serve as a reminder not to text and drive and promote better driving behavior.  They have chosen this time frame to do this with prom being the 22nd of April to also give students a positive message about good decision making for that weekend as well.
